NoKIA SR Devices

Now we are coming to the fun part Where we talk about the enterprise nature of Nokia SR

The term "SR" stands for service router. Formerly known as Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia's SR routers are among the most popular in enterprise routing. Their popularity likely stems from being specifically designed for service routing. While capable of basic routing tasks, these routers truly excel in enterprise-level routing. Presently, several Nokia devices operate on SROS (Service Router Operating System). For practicality, we will concentrate on the 7705 model for configuration labs. Once familiar with the 7705, you'll be equipped to handle any device running SROS. However, for the examination, questions will pertain to the 7750 model, which boasts greater capacity than the 7705. This chapter aims to introduce the hardware, functionalities, and basic configurations of these exceptional devices.

The Nokia 7750 is available in twelve distinct variants and chassis types, all functioning on the SR platform. As they operate on the same OS platform, the CLI commands remain consistent. The variants are listed below.

7750 DESCRIPTIONS

7750 SR 12e

7750 SR 12e

7750 SR 12e

The system includes two dedicated slots for the Switch Fabric Module (SFM), also known as the Control Processor Module (CPM). These modules are hot-swappable and duplicated for redundancy, enabling active-active load sharing. It features an enhanced fan tray and supports additional CPMs compared to the 7750 SR-12. The system provides nine slots for various MDAs (IOM-based) and is exclusively available with DC power, incorporating a 4+1 power redundancy scheme.

7750 SR 12

7750 SR 12e

7750 SR 12e

This is similar to the 7750 SR 12e, except it differs in chassis dimensions and capacity. The 12e can handle more throughput. Slots A and B at the center are reserved for the CPM. Slots 1-5 and 6-10 are designated for Media Dependent Adapters (MDAs), which act as baseboards for Input and Output Modules (IOMs) and provide only Layer 1 physical functionalities.

7750 SR 7

7750 SR 7

7750 SR 7

The 7705 SR7 includes two slots specifically reserved for CSM cards, typically located at the bottom of the device. Slots 1-5 are designated for MDA cards. Power specifications can be either DC or AC, depending on your requirements.

7750 SR 1

7750 SR 7

7750 SR 7

This is the most compact model of the 7750, ideal for small Points of Presence (PoPs). It features a single slot for an MDA and is available in both DC and AC variants.
